Suspended between symbolism and conceptual precision, each sculpture in this collection resists inherited orthodoxies around sexuality; recast not as taboo, but as artifact of reverence. Burn drew inspiration from his experiences in Japan, visiting underground venues that practice Kinbaku. For centuries the Japanese have practiced Kinbaku, the unique and intricate art of rope tying known more commonly as Shibari. I wanted the art to express the traditional feel of Kinbaku, fused with the modern practice of S&M, which is also popular within the many underground club venues in Japan.
